2009 Poster![]() Hans Feyerabend; Miami – Berlin 49 PortraitsThe portraits are part of an ongoing project: the exploration of the human face. 2002 faces - the initial series, was displayed collectively once in 2002 as a homage to time, measured in years, from its origin to present day in the Western World. For every year, there was one portrait. Since the completion of 2002 faces, many consecutive series evolved. They diversified in media and size, and include sculpture as of 2004. Shown are not portraits of actual people, but of fictitious characters. The face as the-mirror-of-our-soul allows a seemingly endless variety of expressions. One key element of these faces is the invitation to interactivity: selecting one or more paintings, the investor creates his or her own unique composition. With the option of grouping the individual paintings in clusters, new relationships between single characters are formed. An option for large scale works with a strong overall visual impact emerges. Artist StatementHans Feyerabend; Miami – Berlin My painting is a combination of outside perception and intuitive signals; communicated in forms and colors. I depict subjects ranging from quasi-photorealistic landscapes to more freely abstract semblances. The latter are mostly defined daydreams, born out of the movement of the paintbrush as it glides over the empty canvas. In time, figures or scenes develop through this technique. The tension between loosely constructed and more elaborately detailed painted areas leave room for the observer's multiple interpretations of the artwork. Each painting incites the interaction between a set of figures and their spatial surroundings. The figures are often viewed in a suspended moment; set in a stage of transition or metamorphosis. Free forms are set next to those that are easily identifiable in order to cast the painting's inner relationships and to reinforce the sense of moment. The strength of the image’s inner structure develops with the interweaving of intuition and personal observations. I employ a compositional balance where the painting’s smaller components attract more attention than the “big picture” at first glance. No matter the size or subject, the images each possess a riveting narrative quality. They beckon a journey ... through elaborated combinations of color and shape. 2008 Poster |
