2007 Poster
Audrey Heller Audrey Heller Audrey Heller has been showing her distinctive and playful photos at top juried art festivals around the country since 2000. Her work draws from her training as a director and lighting designer for theater and her love of overlooked details and visual puns. “It makes me happy to think that perhaps my pictures encourage people to see things a little differently and a little more joyfully. When I was little, I really fixed on the fantasy that we might be tiny creatures in a giant’s world. That idea is exciting and terrifying. Exciting because it means that there is so much more to learn than we can even conceive of and terrifying because we could be squashed at any moment. There is something inspiring, as well as humorous, about seeing these industrious little guys take on such daunting tasks. I particularly love Ultramarin, because my father has had that paint set since he was a little boy in Germany. It traveled with him around the world, witnessing a lot of history and ended up here. What pictures did those paints paint? What pictures will they paint? What mysteries lie beneath the surface? There is a nice connection in using my father’s belongings in my art, since he taught me about photography and about observing and appreciating the visual world.” Audrey lives in her native San Francisco, and is proud to embody many of its values.
