Young Artist ShowcaseYoung Artist Showcase – sponsored by:![]() OverviewAs part of its outreach to the community, the Festival Board initiated a new community arts program in 2006 entitled the Young Artist Showcase. This program provides students from the area’s five Art Magnet Public Schools (grades 6-12) the opportunity to display their work during the Festival. The Young Artist Showcase is a juried exhibition, where seven awards are presented – one Best of Show, three Awards of Excellence High School and three Awards of Excellence Middle School, plus accompanying awards to their teachers. See Awards for Teachers & Students. The Young Artist Showcase program assists in promoting the value and significance of the Hillsborough & Pinellas Counties’ Art Magnet School programs. In addition, this is a wonderful opportunity to have these young artists interact with the professional artists exhibiting in the Festival by helping them gain valuable experience that may encourage them to pursue artistic careers. The Young Artist Showcase serves not only as a vehicle for arts education enhancement for students, but also informs broader under-served audiences and the general public of the appreciation of art and its creation. School class project: LIVE at the FestivalThe Festival will also showcase class projects from the Elementary Art Magnet School programs. This year’s featured school was Lockhart Elementary, teacher William Tallenti. Children attending the Festival created an 8-foot by 4-foot mural of downtown Tampa. It is composed of nearly 100 individual canvases. 2008 Participating Art Magnet SchoolsHillsborough CountyHoward W.
